Chapters 5-7 of Matthew’s Gospel are often referred to as the Sermon on the Mount, because Jesus spoke these words on a hillside near Capernaum. This “sermon” probably covered several days of preaching, in which Jesus proclaimed a whole new way of living, and certainly a new attitude toward the law. Position, authority and money are not important in the Kingdom of God. What matters is faithful obedience from the heart. Over the months of July and August we will be focusing on this new way of living. May the Lord help us all to live these things out in our day to day lives and relationships.
